Britney Spears Hit With Two Driving Charges

After former somewhat respectable pop star Britney Spears crashed headlines with a stellar MTV Video Music Awards performance earlier this month, she’s making news about another crash… this time into a car.

Spears was charged Friday with a misdemeanour hit and run that caused property damage and driving without a valid license.

The pop burnout hit a parked car on Aug. 6 in California’s San Fernando Valley and took off without leaving a note for the other driver or filing a report, according to the Los Angeles city attorney’s office.

Viewers can watch the events online in a widely circulated video.

“Uh-oh, I’m a brainiac,” Spears tells a paparazzi scrum in the clip. “Sorry about that, what do I do?”

The singer is then seen getting out of her black convertible and asking, “Did I hurt my car?”

After a brief examination of her vehicle, and not the white station wagon that she hit, Spears decides, “It’s not bad,” before she leaves the scene.

According to the California Vehicle Code, drivers must locate the owner of damaged property or leave their information for the victim and contact local law enforcement officials.

The North Hollywood division of the L.A. police department received a formal complaint from the victim on Aug. 9. And then the Department Of Motor Vehicles discovered that there was no record of issuing a California driver’s license to Spears.

No, you’re not hallucinating. Yes, you have seen her driving around southern California in countless photographs.

Spears faces a maximum of six months in jail and/or a $1,000 U.S. fine for each count. Her arraignment is set for Oct. 10
